I've discovered that T-mobile UK have an exclusive on this so it'll probably be a couple of weeks before I get my SIM-free one  :(

But just wondered if anyone here had bought one on contract and what you think of it?

Rik

I think it was too low to the ground and the pedals were uncomfortable, Mitch. ;D :out:

It's not one I would consider, having got used to a larger screen, but here's one review I found:

Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Very good Rik.

Gary, thanks for the link, I did have a 5800 for a while and yes I've looked at the Apple iPhone but I just don't get on with touchscreens so am going for a good ol' 1 piece phone with a keypad.

I think you meant Simon, touch screens are a bit like Marmite really, I love mine but it took a while, I can now type faster than with buttons, but I really miss my old 7650, first Nokia Camera phone, it was all so new and exciting back then.
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Here's a tip folks don't buy from Expansys and if you do take their delivery estimates with a cellar of salt.

Stock was supposed to be in last Friday but their estimate reset to 4 days.

By Tuesday it was still showing 3 days so mailed them, got a mail on Wednesday saying the stock had arrived and was being booked in and the order would be processed either Wednesday or worst case today (delivery tracking still showing awaiting stock and estimate 3 days)

Rang them at 4.30 as had heard nothing and it hadn't even put forward for picking so asked them to cancel it.

Did a search for reviews on the net and this caper seems to be par for the course.

So looking round for another retailer as Nokia only have the white version on their site at the minute.

Just thought I'd share that with you.

Simon

I've only bought from them a couple of times, small stuff, but not had any problems.  Thanks for the heads up, though.

Might be worth adding to the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Mitch.

As it is a new model, the fault maybe with Nokia not supplying them fast enough.

I understood the first delay Glenn but to tell me in a mail it should be shipped today or tomorrow as the stock had arrived and then not to hear anything is a bit off don't you think?

For the record I checked the site today and still shows awaiting stock 3 days so I wonder if someone was telling a porkie pie?

I have seen now at another company called mphone whom I've checked on companies house and they check out but just wondering whether their stock has UK firmware as there are some retailers that say they import from Hong Kong

Simon

Personally, I'd be wary of Hong Kong imports, Mitch.

Well C5 has now appeared in stock on Expansys and have ordered to give them the benefit of the doubt (as cant seem to get the black version anywhere else at the moment)

They have mailed to say its been shipped so hopefully might get delivered tomorrow.

My C5 landed today.

Going to unpack it and get it running when I get home.

pctech

Phone has arrived in plastic bag with adapter, Nokia sealed package has been broken into and to all intents it looks like a second hand phone.

Rang Expansys and told them and was told it is likely they broke open the package to unlock the phone, explained I was not happy and they have sent an RMA form for me to return it and get a refund.

If you want a brand new genuinely SIM-free phone go elsewhere.

Simon

That's disappointing for you, Mitch, and very poor of Expansys.  If it wad genuinely sim free, it wouldn't have needed to be unlocked, would it?

Just hoping Nokia start stocking the Grey or Black variant on their online shop soon, at least if I get it from the source I know it hasn't been messed with.

pctech

Finally managed to order the Warm Grey version direct from the Nokia shop.

Paid for express delivery in the hope it arrives on one of my days off next week.

Looks like Grey is preorder so won't gert my mitts on it till the end of July

White one is ready to ship apparently, who the heck wants a white one?

Steve

I'm sure white is very fashionable in certain circles but I'm at my wits end thinking of who. England football team?

Gadgets should be black or silver (although used to have a powered woofer CD system in army green and black which was nice)

Simon

Just black for me, given the choice.

After looking at the phone's SAR value of 1.34 W/kg versus the 6700 which I did have which was 0.41 I've decided against the C5 and have purchased a new 6700 in Black as although I don't believe for a second that mobiles boil your brain I feel a lot better about potentially under half a watt going into my skull in a bad signal area than over 1 and a quarter watt, just to err on the side of caution.
