Quicken 8 and Windows 7

I know it is an old version of Quicken, but I don't see the point of getting a newer one when version 8 does all I want. However after getting it onto my new machine and running it under Windows 7 it works fine, except that I like to modify Quicken.ini so that I automatically make a copy of the data whenever I exit. Now it denies me permission to rewrite Quicken.ini (I use Notepad. I have checked permissions and they are set to write. Anyone any ideas as to what the problem might be please?

Have you tried starting notepad in 'run as administrator' mode, just right click on notepad to select it.

Also make sure Quicken is not running when you are doing the editing as it may lock the file.

Thanks for the replies. I have tried it in Admin mode and when Quicken is not running. The instructions seem simple for the Take Ownership program, however I ran it and nothing seemed to happen, I certainly was given no choices as to changing ownership, also there is no sign of the program on my machine. Is this normal? If so it has not cured my problem.

Looks like it adds a menu option.

Try right-clicking on quicken.ini and click Take Ownership
