BT Speedtester result:

Download speed achieved during the test was - 7741 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 1000-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :9552 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 736 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7150 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 15.92:24.34:59.75 (SBE:NBE:PBE)

Before I upgraded to ADSL2+ I was getting downloads of 7500+ Kbps and uploads of 650+ Kbps.

Surely I should be seeing better results than this after the upgrade?
The upgrade was done last Thursday, and to be honest, the improvement is negligible, to say the least.

Dave, can you post your router stats, the technical guys can then give you a guess as to what you should be getting?

Hanging on Rik :-)

OK, I've spoken to support, you seem to have a lot of user-requested resyncs - are you re-booting the router to try and improve things? If so, don't - you'll make things worse.

Your line is currently in sync at 9.5M with an attenuation of 39.5db and a noise margin of 6db. BT haven't banded your profile.

If you can keep the sync constant, your profile will rise to ~9M. ADSL2+ is hard to predict as it's much more sensitive to noise than ADSL1. You started with a sync of 14M, but the line couldn't hold it and has dropped to the 9.5 you have now.

Thanks for that Rik.
I haven't rebooted since Friday, but have had various disconnects (including one while you were finding out about my SNR!)

I'll leave things as they are for the time being, and see how it goes.

Thanks for the help!

In that case, the router is asking for them due to noise. Is there any chance you can connect it to the test socket, Dave, assuming you have an NTE5 master socket that is?

Let me get a screwdriver....

(The wife panics when she hears that - it normally means a trip to B&Q to replace what I was fixing...)

Rik

 ;D

Know that feeling. Leave it in the test socket for 24 hours if you can. What else is connected to the line?

DaveH

Connected it to the master socket and got an instant uplift to 10351 down and 738 up.  ;D

Nothing else connected to the line, using a BT Speedtouch filter.

Rik

You might want to consider an ADSL Nation xf-1e, or even a filtered faceplate - there's nothing to beat them in my experience.

Took a look, and placed my order for the filter.

Cheers Rik!

My download speed is still lower than before the change, but considering the time of day, I'm not too worried at the moment.

I'll keep speed testing for the next 24-48 hours and see if things improve.

Thanks for the help.

Rik

You need to give the profile time to catch up - it can take up to 5 days.

Mr Music Man.
