Setting DNS server IPs

I keep getting occassional DNS resolution issues whereby a page does not resolve or I just get the text and not the graphics.

To try to sort this out I am attempting to manually set the DNS server addresses.

I enter the IPs and click save and it gives the invalid PPP username error and removes the detail (though thankfully does not remove the userID and password)

I cant use the javascript statement to save it as I'm on v6 firmware, any ideas?

Go to page http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=C_1_1_POST&NEXTPAGE=C_1_1_POST and enter a fictitious BT username ( me@BTinternet.com ) and any password

change the DNS settings and then save the page, you will get the "configuration successful" message.

Go to page http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=HURL13 and re-enter your correct username and password

I would leave the DNS on the router alone, and just change it from within Windows.

Yes it reacted rather badly to it so I'm going to set them in the TCP/IP properties.

Doing it in Windows also means you can change it without having to reboot the router, Mitch.

Only reason I don't normally do it in the OS is so that I can swap the router out if I need to.

I've switched back to my netgear for the time being as although the speed was increasing I found actual DNS resolution to be a bit sluggish. (Newnet's DNS is very quick and it looks as though they have upgraded the platform recently too)

Was wondering if there is any mileage in flashing the 2700 with non BT firmware and wondered how you would go about doing so.

'fraid its 'no can do' with a v6. Once you've got v6 on a 2700 you're stuck with it.

Oh yeah its BT so that figures and is one of the reasons I stopped using ISP supplied hardware particularly when TR-069 came in which allows the ISPs to update and tinker with it at will.

We can easily stop a forced update etc. and we have known for some time that V6s cannot be turned back into V5s. That is why we don't recommend people buy the V6 on Ebay.

Wouldn't reoomnmend anybody buys anything electronic on ebay (unless they are buying it from me of course)
