Since using a 2700 Router my IP profile has reduced

I used to use a Netgear DG834v4 router, but having had connection issues with it while using Windows 7, I was recommended the 2700 router which solved the 'no network connection' and having to reboot the router problem.

The Netgear gave me a steady IP of 4000, sometimes 4500, but since using the 2700, the IP dropped almost immediately to 3500, and now has been at 3000 for a couple of months. Are there any setting which can be adjusted to improve the IP. no wiring has been changed between the use of each router?

If not, what is the best Router to go for apart from the 2700. Belkin, Netgear?

Any ideas?

Can you post your router stats?

or this http://home/xslt?PAGE=B02 if its a v5 firmware model

Stats are as follows (my noise margin was always around the 5.0db - 6.0db, but then for some reason it dropped to 0.2db, my internet connection was the speed of dial up and since then after it recovered, the noise margin has always been around the 12-13db mark. Idnet don't seem interested in helping me or suggesting anything to help):

Hope these are the correct figures you need.

The reason you IP profile and downstream have dropped is as a consequence of the noise margin been raised to 12 to stabilise you line. There are several possible reasons 1 internal noise - filters, ring wire, sky boxes etc 2. external noise due to line degradation Obviously you can only effect the first. Do the figures improve when connected to the test socket (NTE5 faceplate)? You could try running routerstats to see if the noise is variable over time http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/internet/files.htm.

Your also probably not gaining anything on downstream speed on adsl2+ and we know adsl2+ is much more sensitive to the effects of noise than adslmax, you can get the connection remodulated back to adslmax keeping your adsl2+ bandwidth allowances and upstream

I never had a problem until the noise dropped to 0.2db one weekend and I phoned support to get it sorted. Can't Idnet reset my target noise figure back to 6db like it was before something (out of my control) caused my sync speed to drop by 25%?

Steve

Idnet can ask BT to reset the margin back but if the connection's still noisy it will likely go back up again.

Can you get a set of stats with the router connected to the 'test socket' that way we can see if your internal wiring is causing any problems.

bridgej

Will connect to the test socket in the next day or so - working today  >:(
