So finally it's here. After the usual hype, the queues, and a sycophantic quote or two from Stephen Fry, the iPhone 4 is here. And it's expensive.

Let's get that one out in the open right away. The lowest price you'll currently pay for an iPhone 4 is £219 for the 32GB version, after which you have to pay £25 per month for 24 months from Vodafone. That works out at a total cost of ownership of £819 over two years, compared with the HTC Desire, which will cost £600 over the same period. The key question is: is it worth the extra 220 quid?

If I went with O2 on an 18 month contract @ £35/month with O2 insurance @£15/month and Applecare £60 it would come to a grand total of £1239 (iphone 4 32Gb @£279) which is just over £69/month for 300 minutes ,500mb data free wifi and unlimited texts. Not forgetting O2 early upgrade offer for my remaining contract @ £100.

Is getting a new shiny TV worth it, is upgrading your old PS3 worth it, is that shiny new amp worth buying when the one you have works, if you like something enough you buy it that simple thats what gadgets are, luxury's not necessities, having sold my iphone my new iphone 4 cost £347 as i see it that's not a bad price for a unlocked sim free handset, I lost £20 over the year on the buying price of my 3GS, and now I am not locked in another contract, one thing about Apple products I have found is, they hold their value.

It is and it is an amazing phone, I'm very happy, the thing is we all demand smaller and fancier looking gadgets, there comes a compromise somewhere, also people want things to be perfect, nothing really is any more die to the sheer number made, once you look past all that and realise what you have is pretty damn good really you start to enjoy your gadgets more.
