2700 arrived - help me understand line stats?

Hi guys - thanks for the advice on getting the right router.  It's arrived today and is up and running without any bother.

I've got the v6 and it's running 6.1.1.48.1-enh.tm.  The interface is a little sluggish, but it's simple enough to find what you need (5-10 seconds for each menu to respond).  I've disabled BT Fusion and Openzone.  There are a few oddities, like the log files contain a lot of errors that are covered on tripod, so nothing to worry about.

Any chance you could have a look at my stats and let me know if there's anything that you would try / tweak?

If you remember, I had a Dlink 2604R which was sync'd at 14.5mb with attenuation down of 33db.  The 2700hgv is sync'd at 13.6mb with 35.7db att down.  My Billion 7402nx had 38db down.  So, it seems that the Dlink is still the fastest connection, but I had approx 8 line drops / stale sessions per day.  So far, the 2700 seems to have been rock steady.  I'll get RouterStats up and running soon to keep an eye on it.  When I first started configuring it this morning, there were a lot of ERR_INCONSISTENT_SIGNAL entries - one every few minutes.  Since I permanently sited the unit and reset the stats, you'll see from the link that there haven't been any issues.

Any feedback on the overall situation would be gratefully received.

Thanks again.

should have added:

MTU is set to 1500 (dlink was 1456, but 1500 never made a difference on it, so have stuck to BT 2700 defaults).
SNR on the dlink yesterday was fluctuating between 3db & 6db every couple of seconds.  Seems steady at the moment on the BT.

Can the target SNR or other settings be tweaked via telnet, or anything clever like that?

Steve

I'm not a user but if the target SNR is stable that has to be good news. As far as I am aware you can't tweak the SNR on a 2wire

Stats seem pretty good, error counts are not too high and the target SNR looks like its set at 6db.
As Steve says, there's nothing to tweak on the 2700, but then again there's usually no need to...

Give it a week or two and you may find your upstream increases from the 875 ...

The vital question is "does it drop overnight" ... but you may find that it hold at 3dB.

I'm desperately trying to figure out why kamikaze pilots wore helmets.

My ISP (and routerstats) has confirmed that since installing the BT2700hgv on Friday, there have been no line drops.  The SNR seems to be steady at ~6db for most of the day and dips to ~2.5/3db during the early hours.  (why is this?)

I'm still curious as to why the Dlink had an additional 1Mb sync speed with the lower attenuation (34db vs. 36.5 of the BT).  Is it normal for different routers to have different attenuations?  I thought it was *line* attenuation.  Ah well... it seems steady for now, which is better than a faster flaky connection I guess.

Now.... just wait for my BRAS profile to catch up...

Cheers

QuoteIs it normal for different routers to have different attenuations?  I thought it was *line* attenuation
The attenuation that most routers show is a 'calculated' attenuation based on the attenuation across all active DSL frequencies and they all probably use different algorithms. If you look closely at the DSL Diagnostics page on the 2700 you will see that in addition to the 35.7db calculated attenuation it also ( in the general information block ) displays the 'Attenuation at 300khz' , which is 28.2. Now that is the real 'line' attenuation and if other routers displayed it you would find them very similar.
