Apparently my connection has it but I'm not entirely sure I know what it means.

Probably a typo but depredation is the act or an instance of plundering; robbery; pillage ;D i.e BTs shareholders.

Degradation means two things to me 1.When an initial sync and margin has been negotiated with the exchange and the margin set, then if signal quality deteriorates over time causing a resync. 2. The reduction in the quality of the BT copper wire connection to your exchange which occurs over many years and that's down to BT maintenance and how far they are prepared to let things slide

Thanks Steve.

IDNet are saying this is the cause of my suddenly unstable internet and significant drop in speed, and that there is nothing that can be done about it.

If its a noise event thats caused the issue then its just a waiting game.

If the physical line has deteriorated then you will need to report this to whoever is responsible for the voice side of the line, report it as a voice fault.

What are you Kipp ?

I think the same thing has happened to me i am on 028 Malone exchange Belfast.

Had a rock solid connection at 18 MB down and 0.7 MB up , but Sunday 27/6 was disconnected for  few hours like a lot of people on here.
The following Monday my download speed is 164 Kbps   old school dial up and upload at the usual 0.7 MB. Got in touch with Id net a few days after that who passed it onto BT who said slight software fault all sorted but alas its still on dial up speeds over a week later Bt are still looking at it and i still have to wait for web pages to load :-( .

Steve

Ronin Is there any help you need or are you in the hands of BT?

Alas it's BT  >:(

I shall ring idnet support later for an update, I am just hoping BT wont just file me in a box that says broke cannot fix.
Everything has been checked my end filters , other computers etc

Yeh I think IDNet have fixed me on 2mb although they've not confirmed this.  But I am still losing sync 2 or 3 times each day but my sync is always the same (2100kbps).  This is preferable to the 500kbps sync I had last week lol.  That said I can no longer use the internet after about 10pm I am losing so many packets.
