My Desire can swim, it got soaked on my cycle ride, water got behind the battery and inside the case, for 3 days there were no signs of life, then on Tuesday evening I tried again, it powered on and has worked fine ever since.

I had a nokia that did that, it went swimming and survived, sadly my SE when it sploshed down the loo was not so fortunate

The odd thing is most of the iPhones I see are in a case, so what's all the fuss. Unless the Yanks are different,they maybe as it doesn't cost them as much.

From what I have read most of the problem phones seem to be in the USA too.

Well, I actually think the US infrastructure is worse. In Cities they probably get better than us, but most places are still stuck on EDGE and poor mobile masts.
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.
