QuoteHello; I'm Angela Gunn and I'm new to the Response Communications team. Today we're releasing our advance notification http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms10-aug.mspx for the June security bulletin release, which is scheduled for Tuesday, August 10. This month's release is composed of 14 bulletins addressing 34 vulnerabilities in Windows, Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, SQL, and Silverlight. Eight of the bulletins carry a Critical severity rating, and six are rated Important.

As always, we recommend that customers review the ANS summary page for more information and prepare for the testing and deployment of these bulletins as soon as possible.

For those who keep track of such things, this will be the most bulletins we have ever released in a month; we have released 13 bulletins on a couple of occasions. However, in total CVE count, this release ties with June 2010, so there's no new record there. Please join Adrian Stone and Jerry Bryant for a public webcast on Wednesday. We'll go into detail about all the bulletins and answer questions live on the air. Register at the link below:

Why is the June security release being done in August ???

There was an update for Win7 yesterday I noticed. I forget what it was :D

Windows update just this second told me there are 12 updates and 1 optional update! 12:10 on a Wednesday? How odd. I checked yesterday and there were only a few. Maybe the few I got triggered these ones. I dunno. Strange how they don't show up on update until now though.

The updates get reelased oin the Tuesday US time Niall.

Auto update will not kick in until the time it is scheduled.

Niall

There is no time set on mine, just to check for updates but not install them. The only other option is to install them at a specific time which I'm not using. It must default to midnight to check then I assume

The normal default is 3am.

The installation default is 3am according to my system, not the download. That could just be M$ wording things in a vague manner though. As I mentioned though, there doesn't seem to be a listing for the download time, but it was just gone midnight when my system picked up the updates. Unless it had downloaded them earlier in the day, but that would make less sense.

I generally visit the update site every couple of days to see if there's anything pressing.

I really think the update system should check, download and install any critical ones when you boot up and it detects an internet connection.

Might reduce the chances of the malware breeding.

Niall

I normally have auto update turned off, and check myself every couple of days. I just thought that as I was off work this week, I'd leave it on to pick them up as I wasn't really doing anything.
