This thread (5 pages long so far) Rogue Gallery at the Avast forum shows the "Rogue" AV/Anti Spywarfe  applications that you may well run in to and definitely want to avoid.

Details and images of the GUI's are given at various URLs.

Depressing isn't it .......

Look at this list ,9 pages long ,see all the garbage produced this year alone http://lavasoft.com/mylavasoft/securitycenter/blog/376  no wonder so many people get caught out.

Rik

Wouldn't it be nice to go back to the innocent days, when few people needed AV software, and the online world was safe, albeit slow.

It would indeed, Linux as a permanent OS solution looks more attractive by the day.

I just saw this on the lavasoft list  http://lavasoft.com/mylavasoft/securitycenter/blog/new-rogue-windowssecuritysuite  how would the less experienced not believe this is a genuine Microsoft product ?

Rik

They wouldn't, which is the major problem these days. Too many people know too little.

If linux because a mass market OS it would be targeted in the same way as Windows.

I think another OS was previously hailed as virus proof but has recently had lots of holes blown in it but its name escapes me at the minute.

I could argue that the way Linux works makes it slightly better than Windows (Win 7 is catching up though).
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.
