A colleague was asking me about one of their friend's machines that has started blocking downloads and has had spyware protect 2009 installed which from my research I gather points to the presence of the nasty conflicker Trojan.

I found some quite involved registry editing instructions to restore function to executables and then remove the trojan.

I understand its been very hard for AV vendors to remove, I advised that the person should back up their data (which includes business) stuff and ideally reformat.

Colleague kept she did not want to get roped into doing a reformat and said she was going to see if this worked.

I have my reservations about the machine being used again without a full format but just wondered if anyone here had manually removed it without any further ill effects?

I've not come into contact with it before as my own system has patches applied as soon as released and up to date AV and work system is also patched and sits behind a very strict firewall.

Run Malwarebytes from safe mode, it normally gets rid of it.
