Hi everyone! Thankyou to the people that were so kind to throw their ideas into the mix as to what they thought the problem was. My probelm is now resolved and all it needed was to uncheck a box!!!!!!!!!! That box was the TCIP v6 box  in the adapter settings - it seems that having both boxes(TCIP v4 & v6) checked confused the connection settings.

Cheers, Mister W for asking me to uncheck the TCIP v6 as that ultimately was the winning piece of advice!!!

Thanks again and no doubt you'll be hearing from me again should I have anymore PC issues - which will be sooner rather than later, no doubt!!

Happy we could help.
I wasn't convinced that IPV6 was the likely problem in this case but it was one more thing to try and you never know with WIndows. ::)
