Windows 7 and BT Business Hub

Our local social club now has a BT Business Hub but my Win7 laptop doesn't like it! It finds the network after inputting the correct security key but connects with limited and no internet access! My son's take their Win XP netbooks and they connect no problem. I've tried connecting using the ethernet cable supplied to the club with their router and it connects to the internet no problem but not wirelessly. I then used their BT Total Broadband Installation CD that came with the router etc and it when it asked me to input the security key it said it was wrong!!



Can someone please help me!!

My advice would be ignore the CD, they usually do more harm than good. Unfortunately, I don't use 7, so can't give more specific advice - but someone will be along shortly.

I'm here but not that familiar with Win 7 issues and the 2700.
It might be a WPA/WPA2 issue have you tried changing the wireless settings on the router from here http://home/xslt?PAGE=C01&THISPAGE=&NEXTPAGE=C01 and then using the @edit settings' button. By default IIRC correctly its normally set to WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK. Try the WPA-PSK only option and/or the WPA2-PSK option. I'm pretty sure we had a similar problem here in the office with a Vist laptop and now have ours set to WPA-PSK.
Alos make sure you delete any existing connection profile on the lappy before trying to connect again having changed the router.
Let us know how that goes...

Edit: saw Rik's post, yes forget the CD you don't need it at all.

FWIW, I use a v6 with Windows 7 without any problems - it just worked as expected.

What's the encryption settings on your v6, Lance ?

I've got it set to WPA-PSK & WPA2-PSK as not all my devices support WPA2. SSID broadcast enabled, 802.11g only, channel 13 with a custom key.

On W7, if you go to the Network and Sharing centre and click Manage Wireless Networks on the left hand menu it should show the network and encryption type being used. Right clicking on the network and going properties > security, my settings are showing as WPA2-Personal, type is AES and the key entered in the next box.

A few visitors have brought Win7 laptops with them and simply logged in without any special settings changes.

It sounds like removing the network (from the 'Manage wireless networks' screen) and rejoining might be the answer.

Lance, I've tried the "removing" of the network from "managing wireless networks" section and tried again but to no avail. I haven't tried changing the settings on the router but I'm reluctant as I don't want to bugger up the network for other users!!

Apologies for the numptiness but what is V6 and it's encryption settings and how do I view mine? Is it the TCIP info you're talking about? I seem to have V4 and V6 TCIP checked when I look at the properties.

Sorry , my link will be for v5 ( version 5 ) of the 2700 firmware. Sounds like yours is version 6 so all the url's will be different. Kinmel's got a v6 so hopefully he will post the v6 url's.

That will be IPV4 and IPV6 , you might want to try unchecking IPV6.

Are the drivers on the laptop up to date?

Have you managed to use the laptop on wifi elsewhere?

Is the wifi antenna turned on?

Is BT2700 transmitting 2 SSIDs and your picking the wrong one?

Have you tried turning off all security (AV and firewall) temporarily prior to connection?

You certainly have to be connected. I'll leave the rest to the experts.

Drivers up to date means the usual over the internet windows update.

As long as your ignoring the fusion SSID it shouldn't be the cause of the issue.

It could be a firewall issue not that that fits in with your other wifi connection successes.

I can't seem to locate where I see the information regarding SSID broadcast enabled, 802.11g, channel 13 and custom key or will I only see that info once I switch the security settings??

The SSID is enabled as you can identify the network, The others are pretty standard settings . How do you normally pick up your IP address on the wifi adaptor I'm assuming via DHCP. Can't remember Windows setting  for TCP/IP but I think auto is the norm

I'm pretty sure we had a similar problem here in the office with a Vista laptop and now have ours set to WPA-PSK.

I finally remembered what the issue was with the Vista laptop, it was the 'DHCP Broadcast' flag that Microsoft ( bless em! ) turned on by default in Vista. Looks like they MIGHT have sorted that problem although I'm not convinced, if you're interested ( not for the faint hearted though! ) have a read of this http://blogs.technet.com/b/teamdhcp/archive/2009/02/12/dhcp-broadcast-flag-handling-in-windows-7.aspx.

Another thought, you say the router is on channel 13. In the US and Canada only channels 1-11 are supported, its just possible ( but unlikely! ) that your card/driver thinks its not UK and therefore won't work on channel 13. If nothing else suggested so far is working then any chance of trying changing the router to channel 11 ?
Also, as Lance says, the Fusion SSID shouldn't be a problem, but again it's worth trying with it disabled if possible.

you have to be connected to the router, then follow the link and check the settings in the router.
