Thanks Roger :thumb:

If you use a NAS or similar device to serve music , Itunes 10 will no longer see it. I'm now back to 9.2.1 until they fix it.

The issue seems to be with Firefly Media Server (mt-daapd) typically used on a NAS or similar device and iTunes 10. Mac shared itunes libraries seem ok.

Steve there appears to be multiple vulnerabilities in iTunes 9  http://secunia.com/advisories/41149

Cheers Gary I'd better be careful, no seriously the shared NAS library is important on the laptops and I'm not the only one suffering. Any NAS that uses mt-daapd to serve iTunes is not currently working.

That is a pain, but for me I guess I am more concerned about security, although I would be well annoyed if I used a NAS. Sometimes less is more I find, although on the Mac iTunes 10 does seem to be very responsive over 9.1.2, hopefully they will fix this issue quickly, although more energy seems to be put into i devices than computers right now, like no iLife 10/11 release, 09 really needs an update.

I've been trying the iPhone again, and I've got to like it more, but not enough to ditch my HD2 just yet.

What version of the IOS are you using Simon?

If your still on 4.0.1 save your blobs if you've not done so already.

I was  reading that the HD2 wont have many new apps developed for it as that version of windows is now a dead platform Simon, seems like that happens every other day with technology  :( having seen one in the flesh I loved it, but would want the latest winmo to future proof myself a bit, although winmo does my nut in so to speak  ;)

I never jailbroke mine, Steve, so I haven't a clue what 'blobs' are!  ;D  I'm on 4.0.2.  The main, and over-riding problem with it is the lack of customisable alert tones, and the fact that the pre-installed ones for new emails and calendar reminders are simply too quiet.  To be slightly petulant, I also don't want a phone that sounds the same as everyone else's, and having paid for the product, I want to be able to do what I bloody well like with it.  I also don't like the home screen, and have got used to the huge, customisable screen on the HD2.  There are things I don't like about the HD2, but at least you can change most things you don't like!

That's very true, and sometimes a little frustrating, Gary, but until something better comes along, it does what I need it to do, the way I want it to do it.  :)  I could, if I wanted to, install Android on it, and have a dual boot system, but I don't really like Andriod all that much either.  ;D  It's entirely possible, however, that a version of WM7 will be made available for the HD2.

Probably a good job at the moment looking at the rising list of issues.

re iPhone . The blobs or SHSH if saved will allow you to return to a previous or earlier OS i.e 4.02 can't be jailbroken currently on the 3GS and Apple will not let you go back. If however you've saved the blobs you can go back to 4.01 and jailbreak.

Just installed it under XP, don't have a NAS device attached so cant tell you if the problem is cross platform.

Glenn

I'm iTunes free

I have it on my home system because I have an iPod Nano and I've bought a few tracks through it that I've not been able to obtain legally elsewhere.

zappaDPJ

I don't have it although I did just download it. The iPhone4 set up instructions tell me I need it, is this true because I don't particularly want it?

Thanks I thought that was the case. I have more questions but they are more appropriate to the Mobile Devices forum so I'll start a new thread there :)

My god, WTF is wrong with this program?

I've just tried to rip my 'The Cream of Clapton' album, because it was only showing track 9 onwards in it's folder in my music folder. I ripped it and it asked if I wanted to overwrite the songs. Odd I thought as it isn't showing them, and when I've looked in to this a bit further, the damn program has filed them under 3 or 4 folders with different names and formatting of the track title. I always wondered why, when I looked under music lists set to album covers, it was showing 3 albums. Now I know, itunes does what the hell it wants!

Does anyone know why on earth it is doing this? It's not like I'm ripping the album 3 times and choosing a different album/artist name each time. It's one album, ripped once and it was split. I've re-ripped it and it did it again. It was only by chance that I was looking through the folder and spotted folders with 2 or 3 songs in them.

Looking through I can see:

Eric Clapton & The Immediate All-Stars/strictly the blues - This contains tracks 7-13
Eric Clapton & John Mayall's Bluesbreake/strictly the blues - This contains tracks 18-20

I have no idea where the rest of the album is stored, or why iTunes is sorting them with seperate Artist names, album names and genre when it's ALL one album. I've also just noticed while looking for info to post this thread that my 'Backtrackin' album is split in to two parts, one under 'compilations' and the 1st disc under the 'Eric Clapton" folder.

What on EARTH is this thing playing at?

I think it's the Gracenotes(?) database, Niall. I often see albums being split, and the only conclusion I could come to was that the American release was different to the UK. Why it splits up and album it recognises as a single entity, though, defeats me.

Same as Rik

I'm guessing the tags are all to pot, the confusion sometimes occurs when you have different versions of the same album in different countries. It sounds like it's identifying tracks from a variety of albums in the online database.

I'm having a few issues with iTunes myself. When I did a sync with my phone it uploaded a lot of stuff I didn't want which I can see was probably my fault. However the annoying thing is there is absolutely no way of deleting any of it on the phone itself :rant2:

If your talking about music I keep a separate library for each device. The apps and images you can delete from the phone.

Niall

I've got to sync my phone in a minute. I'm dreading it. God knows what will happen.

I've NEVER liked iTunes, but thought I'd give it a go after deleting all my music, by letting it arrange everything. I thought that even if it was a new filing system at least I'd get used to it. Apparently I need to be a bloody mind reader, crossed with Rain man to know about every member of the bands that Clapton has played with to know how it stores it.

I could understand it if we were talking 2 CDs of an import disc, or a UK concert maybe, but a SINGLE CD of one album and it's pulling it to pieces!  :rant2:

Oh and Ping is still awful.

I'm keeping well away from Ping , you edit the tags in Itunes manually , right click on the song > get info . Well you can on the Mac the method may be slightly different in Windows

Images you can't unless they were created by the phone. The waste/recycle bin does not appear if it's synced content. I accidental uploaded the best part of 2000 photo quality images to the phone and had a devil of a job finding out how to remove them. In the end I had to delete them from the synced folders and re-sync. I did Google and found all sorts of weird a wonderful suggestions but none of them worked.

I must admit I've never synced any photos. I only have the ones from the 'camera'
