The Android fragmentation

That's the disadvantage of Android compared to Apple IOS I suppose who have a very limited range of hardware to support.

Apparently there's now been issues with the O2 update to Android 2.2, and they had to pull it after claims of bricked phones.

T-Mobile haven't even got around to releasing yet, they were the 1st carrier to have the Desire.

It's not going so well for Google is it. I noticed last night Google Wave has been quietly abandoned. I say quietly because I was a beta tester and didn't even know they had dropped it.

I wonder who tests these releases or is it now impossible with multiple phones with a variety of configurations

It's probably more difficult, unless the networks will do it.

The networks will have testing teams, they 'should' have access to all the phones.

It seems the problem is, the networks all want to add their own bits to the software.  You know who you are with, so why do you need a splash screen to remind you every time you power up the phone?  Apparently, the unbranded 2.2 works fine.

I'm considering rooting (jailbreaking) my phone.

IMO it was the worse idea ever. If you want a chat room, where everything is reatime, use a chat room. If you want a forum, where you have time to comment and reply, and can quote posts, use a forum.
Don't mix the two. It just causes confusion. I don't want to scroll to the top of a page, for a comment made 2 hours ago, for someone to post a new reply to it, in realtime.

A forum seems much better. Although the "roll call" feature seems very good. The other stuff does not.

The T-Mobile 2.2 upgrade, apparently is now awaiting Google approval, before release.
