Anti virus recommendation please

I use Eset NOD32  which expires shortly. As usual I am narked thast if we were in the USA it would be cheaper and hace discounts available, however it does work. I am running Windows 7 with Explorer and Thunderbird. Anyone any better suggestions than Eset please?

I stand by Avast personally. It works well, isn't intrusive, has regular updates, and is completely free for home use.

I changed from NOD32 to Avast on the laptop downstairs.. NOD32 let in some viruses, Avast hasn't so far.

Avast 5 free has a new release out this week, it is excellent.  I would not go back to Eset now, they have lost the plot recently and have failed to add updated signatures for some nasty stuff for days at time as well as there being some serious flaws in the product.

I usually see more than that, I guess it depends on your settings and how much time you spend online. I think Avast are more efficient and proactive than many AV solutions, certainly reading their forum they are very much open to input and suggestions from their customers.

They have Pro/server and Security Suite versions available and they sell very well.

I use avast internet security (paid for) its very good but seems to take an age to start up, and slows the pc while it is loading. I have normally finished sorting my email by the time it is fully protecting my system

I now install MS security essentials on all client pcs

Also going to be putting it on my own once eset sub runs out - its gone downhill as of late!

I'm another Avast user, switched when my Eset sub expired to save the cash.

NOD32 didn't work properly on my windows 7 machine, and I've read this week that there are issues with the latest version too (if I find the link again I'll post it later). I was forced to switch to Avast (free edition) which seems to work in a similar way to NOD32 so it gets my vote.

OK, so a supplementary. Apart from deleting NOD how do I stop it from loading and running on starting my windows 7. I did know but have forget, oh the problems with age!

You must uninstall Nod/Eset from the start menu > Eset > Uninstall

no i haven`t, was going to format and just put the free av on. when i get a chance, i will ask
