Figures on router yesterday morning;
Conn speed 20000
Att 23
noise 3.8 db

and now;
Conn speed 1203
Att 23
noise 30.5db

Swapped routers, exactly the same result.

Speed checkers show d/l speed at 0.48.

Reported to IDNet yesterday evening & am hoping for a call.

jftr I put a new 'puter on yesterday afternoon and thought that was something to do with the probs so switched it off and used my laptop with same dismal results.

Can't do a bt test, just sits there and says it's done.

Exchange is Helston (01326) and I suspect probs there as I've had a few minor probs on and off all week and even lost the 'phone line for a while.

Any comments appreciated.

Rik

About the only comment I can think of, Rick, is something is broken. Have you connected to the test socket?

Tried that Rick, exactly the same results. I'm convinced that bt is to blame as my connx is making and breaking now.
It would be wonderful if IDN would return my 'phone call from yesterday evening (fat chance of that).
To be honest I'm thinking of requesting my mac code and select an isp who works evenings and weekends. In view of the fact that we pay TOP RATE for the idnet service I really do think their out of hours backup stinks!!!!

Rik

The basic problem is that they can only do a limited amount over the weekend, as the main BT team they work with are only open 9-5:30, Monday to Friday. Have you reported the fault as poor speed, or lost connection? If the former, report it again as the latter.

Definitely a BT fault at the exchange.  Have wandered around neighbours and their speeds have been reduced to 1/2 Mb too.  Wished I
'd done that last night instead of fighting with routers till 3am and this morning from 8 till 1/2 hour ago.
Q. Will IDNet escalate this possible 'card fault at the exchange' with BT??

Rik

Yes, if they have the evidence to support the theory, Rick. They certainly did for me.

5 computers around my bungalow have all dropped to 1/2 meg connx.  Will this info. suffice for IDN to escalate Rik?

Rik

They'll need a series of BT tests, at different times of day, they can then test the line, look at what they get from that and, if justified, escalate with BT. The problem is that these days, ISPs pretty much have to demonstrate a fault before BT will look at it to find out. Oh, and you'll be asked to run the router from the test socket if you have one and, ideally try a second router - just to save you some time. :)

Rik, Can't do the bt speed tests, just sits there with its thumb up its bum, connx nearly non existent.

Rik

Let support know you've tried, Rick. They'll do what they can. Do you have the voice side with them as well?

No voice with them Rik.
Just managed a speed test (wonders never cease)
Here 'tis

Test1 comprises of two tests

1. Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.

Download Speed
369 Kbps

0 Kbps 7150 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed

Download speedachieved during the test was - 369 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 1000-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :3456 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 552 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 3500 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 25.78:25.99:48.24 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.

The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.

2. Upstream Test:  -provides background information.

Upload Speed
993 Kbps

0 Kbps 552 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed

>Upload speed achieved during the test was - 993 Kbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 552 Kbps

Rik

That's outside BT's acceptable range, so can be raised as a fault. Try and get a couple more if you can, Rick.

I asked about the voice because I have an intermittent crackle on one of my lines. Every time IDNet test it, as they open the port, the fault goes away. It's crude bit it's quick. :)

Well, at least it's reasonably consistent. :(

Id have given my eye teeth for those speeds 5 or so years ago. ;D

Rik

 ;D

20 years ago, I'd have given all my teeth for those sorts of speeds. ;)

Shhh, don't tell BT that our internet technology used to be rated in 'baud', the marketing company might realise how big a number they can state DSL can go "up to"!
CompuServe 28.8k/33.6k 1994-1998, BT 56k 1998-2001, NTL Cable 512k 2001-2004, 2x F2S 1M 2004-2008, IDNet 8M 2008 - LLU 11M 2011

|I would have just invited a mate over with a pc and do a LAN at 1-10mbps. :D
But I was easy to please.
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

I used to have a Magic modem with a 12k speed. Might just dig it out if things get any worse!!

sobranie

Latest speed test.

Seem to be getting precisely nowhere despite being in contact with IDN.

Rik

What have they said, Rick.

Just leave the router plugged in to the test socket. They seem to think the synch is improving ..... I sodding well don't!!!!!!!!!!
Other people around me are all suffering with all their connx down to 0.5. yet IDN think that mine will improve!!!  Ha Ha.!!!
It's patently obvious that the prob. lies at the exchange but I don't think IDN are buying that idea.
This is the 4th day of this utter cr*p, I'm fed up to the back teeth with it but where do I turn to??

Rik

Let me see what I can find out, Rick.
