I understand that you are on a 5M sync, but you had a router restart/resync this morning which caused banding to be reimposed. If you can avoid any resyncs, the banding will lift again tomorrow, then do another BT test and let support have the result. Support can't comment on other lines being affected as they can't access them, so they are working with you as if this was a normal fault. What they are trying to avoid is getting an engineer out to you if there's a risk that you might incur charges, Rick.

5M synch? wonder what happened to my 18M synch.
Re: engineer, have no intention of letting one within 10 miles of my property. Eg: The fault lies elsewhere IMHO taking into account the other lines around me.
Tks for your efforts Rik.

I know what you mean, Rick, but you know that BT works in mysterious ways, so IDNet are trying to ensure those ways are not used against you. An 18-5M drop is enough of a fault to pass to BT if the line doesn't recover in the test socket.

Tks for that Rik. Can't help wondering why BT doesn't monitor their exchange lines which would enable them to spot probs as they occur. Wishful thinking I guess.

Rik

Very. ;D I spent 10 days at Xmas with no connection because BT swore I was in sync even though I'd disconnected the router. They are not the sharpest tools in the box. :( (It was a faulty line card when they could be bothered to send someone to the exchange!)

Something's happening.  Router back to 19000+, all lights on, no internet access so a reboot had to be done. (May God help me).
Anyway, IDNet rang me a few mins ago as I had reported nil access and chappy there thinks a line reset has been effected.
Fingers crossed that things have been sorted and I'm leaving the connection into the test socket pro tem.

What exactly is a line reset and who initiates/effects same please?

Simon

I could be wrong, but I believe IDNet have to request BT to do it, Rick.

All back to normal, big thankyou Rik and everyone else who read/commented.

Rik

Glad you're sorted, Rick. It sounds like BT have been to the exchange and re-started or changed the line card - which would almost certainly also affect your neighbours.

A quick trip down town earlier revealed no less than 4 bt openreach vans with chappies working furiously at the side of the road which leads to my place.
All of them were mealy mouthed and refused to discuss what they were doing.
Is it possible that IDNet support really wields this much influence just to fix my line???? :eek4:

Rik

If they escalate, yes they can, Rick. Some ISPs shout and scream and slag BT off in public, IDNet work with them, at whatever level they need to, to get action.

It's good to have friends in high places. Or, of course, it might be pure coincidence. ;)

They leave the slagging off to us!
