Hi hi

My friend is unable to play online games from about 4pm till 11pm due to stupidly high pings (1000ms+) in game. Just looking for advice for him really. He isn't the bill payer (he lives at his girlfriend's and as far as they are concerned its fine for their internet use).

What can he do? I said email technical support - what should he include? A ping trace to google or something?

Cheers

Although we have just found out pinging using CMD seems to yield acceptable pings, Ventrilo also has decent ping and pings to other websites, it only seems to be in game, at this kinda time?

quite possibly...

isnt there anything you can encrypt the connection with?

Rik

It may also be down to the routing for that game, Sam, possibly it's congested.

Orange BB is the pits seriously it is awful, technical help is...well a joke, he would be better off with another line, I know that sounds harsh but Orange free BB is junk, I don't know anyone who enjoys that experience, I remember all the issues on Orangeproblems, the website set up to help users who were at their wits end, which included me at that time. Tech support managed to change my Name to Mary, and send me three routers, they were that good!  :(
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Rik

I hope that didn't involve surgery, Gary. ;D

It may have done if I had got hold of the guy from tech (cough) support  ;)

Its pretty much every game and every server! But pinging the game from cmd prompt shows a decentish ping  :dunno:

I did say to switch but as its not his BB, it's his girlfriend's parents who sort it so I suppose its not up to him lol.

I did recommended Sky to him if hes after some kind of money saving package/the least worse cheap BB supplier. Oh well I suppose first class BB connections arent top of everybodies agendas - only us nutters!

Is it Orange LLU or Orange / BT ?

My neighbour uses Orange and is an avid gamer, he has no issues with pings etc. ( though he does need valium if he ever needs to speak to their support)

pctech

A friend who is an avid gamer just moved away from Orange over to Zen for similar reasons.

Main reason I wouldn't use one of the big ISPs, apart from the bad support.

Rik

In my case it's down to pure bloody-mindedness. ;)

No such thing as a free dinner, when people moan about free BB what do they really expect? If its free you cant really complain even though that business model is a true nightmare. I think Sky are the best of a very bad lot, and that's not saying much
