I have a strange software installation problem, I've just upgraded to the latest version of PaintShop Pro Photo, I'm running the installer and it tells me it's configuring directX which lasts for about 40 seconds, then I get the screen below about the installation failing to complete.
I've tried disabling everything I can think of without success. There seems to be no  way that it's going to install on this PC so in desperation I tried installing it on my other PC which it did with no problem! :wall: why the hell won't it install on the first MC? they're both running Win 7 64bit with exactly the same security software running on both.  :stars: :dunno:

Try turning off the security software.

No same versions, Rik, part of it's installation seems to be to check and update directx and that seems to be where it's failing, it's almost as though something is blocking it's access to it. :-\

What Steve said, Ray? I take it that rights are the same on both machines?

Tried that, Rik, rights are the same on both, running as an Administrator.

Is the DirectX up to date on the PC? or is i trying to install from the CD?

Ray

It's up to date on the PC, the programme install is from a downloaded copy not a CD, Glenn.

Rik

Are there any differences you can identify between the machines, Ray, eg graphics card?

They are different graphics cards, Rik, but I've even tried swapping them over to no avail, the only other difference is the MC it's installed successfully on has a quad core cpu and the other one is a core 2 duo, both Intel.

I wouldn't have thought that cores would make a difference for DirectX, Ray. Could it be a BIOS issue?

I wouldn't either, Rik, I've always thought that directx relates mainly to the graphics and audio systems.

Me too, Ray, but I'm running out of ideas. :(

Other than turning of all security software including your AV & firewall, running the installer as an administrator and checking that DirectX is the latest version I can't think of any way around it and it sounds like you've done all of that.

Could you try another method of directx up date

I know its a strange suggestion but try copying the disk contents to a folder on your desktop and running from there.

Ray

Well there seems to be something wrong with DirectX on this MC. I've just downloaded and tried to install the latest update and it fails to install with the error message below: -

thanks, Mitch, but that's the way I'm trying to install it, there's definitely something wrong with the DirectX installation on this PC, it's not allowing the update to complete for some reason.

Congratulations on your 3000th post, :karma: and :welldone:
