Hi,

If i have my phone line rental with Talk Talk am I still able to sign up to IDNet broadband?

thanks

I'm guessing not. I'm also slightly confused - I assume that in order to paying line rental to talk talk, you must be on a unbundled line which belongs to talk talk. Therefore, if you were to come to IDNet you would have to come off the unbundled line and back onto a BT line and start to pay line rental to BT rather than talk talk.

I'd agree with your thinking, Lance.

The answer to that question is yes you can.I have talktalk provide my phone service and my line is not unbundled. As far as I know you can only be unbundled if you're on an LLU broadband connection.I have to correct what Lance said as it's BT that owns the actual line you just pay Talktalk for the service. The best idea is to go onto an ADSL availability checker like samknows.com or prodigynet.co.uk which will tell you the status of your line.

Rik

Good point, Lance and I were thinking of full LLU, but that might not be the case. Thanks for pointing out our error.

Although talk talk provide your phone service, do you still have to pay BT line rental?

If not I have to assume that talk talk pay some sort of line rental directly to BT and agree that it would be possible to have IDNet.

And where are my manners! Welcome to the forum MM2K7 and Nath

Thanks for the reply guys, and the welcome  ;D

I am enquiring on behalf of a friend i have recommended IDNet to.  She currently has a non-working BT broadband setup and has recently moved to Talk Talk for phone calls and line rental.

Im not sure i understand all the lingo for the local exchange setups so I have included the results from samknows.com.  Does this make things any clearer? Thanks for the replies in advance  :)

That's the significant line, they haven't unbundled yet, so the line is effectively a BT one and can have IPstream services, ie IDNet. What she may have to watch out for is TT deciding to unbundle the line without telling her. If she does sign with IDNet, I would advise a letter to TT, telling them that she is an IDNet customer and does not want them to unbundle her line. Send it 'Signed for', it could come in handy...

We have a CPS service on our line which was originally Just Dial, then sold to Onetel, then on to Talk Talk!

A while ago Talk Talk contacted customers to offer them the irresistable deal of  a whole £1 off line rental to switch entirely to them (nothing to do with unbundling).  They did not mention that various override codes would not then be valid (we use 18185 prefix for all daytime calls at cheap cheap rates - then dial without a prefix to get Talk Talk rates when their tariff is free - if you see what I mean?).

We declined the offer to shift entirely to Talk Talk a) cos of loss of overrides and b) cos the prospect of Talk Talk becoming an intermediary in getting any voice line fault fixed was not an appealing one.  None of this affects broadband connections.

HavellN

ok, thanks for the further replies  :)

Sounds like its good to go for IDNet, just need to get the MAC from BT now - which is proving easier said than done!

Rik

Remind them of the Ofcom code, they have five days to give it to you, iirc.

Thanks  ;D

My friend had been in contact with them because the BB wasnt working, it wouldnt connect.  She had been speaking to india and not getting anywhere.  Anyway she phoned up customer options to request the MAC and the person on the other end ultimately refused to give it to her and said he would get the diagnostics team on to the case for her fault and that they didnt want to lose her as a customer.  Anyway, we have decided to let them diagnose and fix the fault then try getting the MAC again  :)

Rik

If there is a fault, you may just as well let them resolve it, rather than take it with you to a new ISP. Once that's done, provided you're out of contract, they can't refuse to issue a MAC. The Ofcom rules are here.
