Hey guys, I have a question regarding my Bandwidth. I'm a little unsure where I stand in regards to wether or not I ran out of Peak allowance. (Started getting random lags which made me check it)

The website says this:
Quote46.84 GB Download - (Peak: 29.09 GB | Off-Peak: 17.75 GB)
12.23 GB Upload - (Peak: 7.12 GB | Off-Peak: 5.11 GB)
Which works out to be 36GB usage for peak times, and the website also says my package is as follows:
QuoteBandwidth Allowance: 90GB Total (Peak: 30GB / Off Peak: 60GB )
if this was the case I'd be over bandwidth cap by 6GB give or take.

But then I stumbled upon this https://www.idnet.net/solutions/home/broadband/ which states my package which I believe to be Home Pro due to the price I recall paying has a Download Peak cap of 40GB, which if that's true I'm still 4GB under cap.

Could anybody shed any light on my situation to whether or not I am infact out of bandwidth, If not I wonder where the random lags came from. Thanks in advance.

Rik

What package does the customer portal say your are on?

https://www.idnet.net/secure/

Broadband > Your Package.

Uploads don't count, btw.

QuoteHome Max (ADSL MAX)

However now I see I looked at the wrong page, https://www.idnet.net/solutions/home/broadband/default-adsl.jsp is the one I needed.
And yes 30GB is my limit, Kind of disappointing considering the price compared to the ADSL2+ equivalent of the same price. However I don't know what technology goes into these things.

Thanks Rik eventually figured it. =P

Rik

NP. :) IDNet is not an 'eat all you can' ISP, but they will deliver the speed 24/7 (BT permitting). Do you have any LLU options at your exchange?

I don't, the best I have available is what I have now & I understand the way IDNet goes that's the reason I chose to use this ISP. Quality over Quantity, just a little tough coming to terms with paying as much for an inferior package, Less bandwidth & speed for the same price. But I'm happy with the service don't get me wrong, I'm happy for what I pay for etc otherwise I wouldn't be here.
I moved from an "unlimited bandwidth" ISP for the Quality IDNet give.

Lance

The packages between Max and ADSL2+ are different as BT charge more for Max connections.

Though they did use a little cross-subsidy to give Max customers more bandwidth this year.

I may be wrong, but the amout you uploaded does not count, so your still at 29GB. Close to the limit still.
On a related note, when are the billing / allowance periods? I've changed recently and got confused. Think it only cost me £1 so no worries, but I was going by the bandwidth monitor, when I think I should have been going by my billing dates.
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

Ahh I see, I don't see the logic in that. I know theres something I don't know and theres a fine reason why it is how it is. But If ADSL2+ Costs more from BT why is a cheaper product(MAX) priced at the same of one which is priced higher(Pro) by default on BT's end?

I'm asking more out of curiosity than anything else btw.

@Rik - Yeah I remember reading something about that.

@Technical Ben - I hope thats the case, Thanks.

The question I'm asking in this post is out of curiosity, I'm not disgruntled nor' am I unhappy, Just curious. :)

Have you not had any warning emails from IDNet about your usage? I thought they sent a message sometime before you go over. You can set up a bandwidth report to be delivered to your mail box through your control panel.

You wont be cut off or restricted anyway if you exceed your allowance, they just bill you £1.00 per GB over use.

I use this application http://www.softperfect.com/products/networx/manual/?lang=English  on my desktops which can be set to give various limits and give warnings, it is a very useful network tool.

It's the other way round, ADSL2+ is cheaper to buy from BT. The packages are priced the same because the bandwidth variations account for the difference.

Billing dates vary per customer, Ben, but usage is always per calendar month.
