Anyone using outlook 2010?

It just seems "awkward" at handling multiple email accounts - having to expand each drop down menu to get to the inbox of each email account, just to check if there is any mail there.

Everyone else getting this or just me?

Rik

I haven't evolved to 2010, Sam, I still prefer 2003 to 2007.

I use Outlook 2010, Sam, I assume you are referring to the drop down under Send/Receive Groups, I don't use use that I just hit the Send and Receive all Folders button and I've also got it set up to do a scheduled Send/receive every 30 minutes, this is the same as I've always done with 2007 and 2003 versions.

I mean the folders on the left. Each account has a expand option. You have to expand each one just to see if they have new messages in the inbox. Thunderbird handles multiple emails a lot better =/

Got 2010 for £39 being a student ;)

I'm not seeing that, Sam, I've got 6 email accounts and they all go in to one Inbox, I use POP3, you're not using MAPI by any chance are you, that could be the reason.

I do it all the time, Ray. ;D Especially as MAPI is a Windows interface for email.

It has defaulted/found the server to be IMAP..

How does that make a difference may I ask  :)

But as Ray has gone, I'll have a go!

IMAP basially syncs Outlook with what you have on the server. Therefore, it has to handle each account as a seperate inbox otherwise you'd be syncing mail from one account to the server of another account and you'd end up with a big mess!

If you set it up as pop3, you can collect mail from the server from several accounts and have it all delivered into one mailbox in Outlook.

Ah so IMAP is if I want all emails to be left on server until I delete them

POP3 will take them off the server as soon as I receive them?

Rik

Though you can opt to leave pop3 mail on the server, Sam.

But it will leave it on until a client without that "leave on server" setting is off

Or until an IMAP configured client syncs the server by the user deleting the mail?

Rik

Yes to the first question. As to the second, I'm not sure how mixed IMAP and POP3 would work, Sam.

I have mixed IMAP and POP accounts in Mozilla Mail, and once the mail is retrieved by the POP account, it's no longer in the IMAP accounts.  Similarly, I can 'save' emails sent from my phone (IMAP) in the PC mail client, by 'moving' the contents of the IMAP Sent folder, to the POP Sent folder, on the PC, thus, also removing sent mail from the server.

I wouldn't want to have to set it all up again!   :red:

I leave POP mail on the server until it is deleted or moved from the inbox. This allows viewing by IMAP I.e iPhone. Likewise IMAP is used for viewing and deletion prior to download via POP

I only receive POP mail on one machine and the rest is IMAP
