The profile will take time to rise, you should get a 1.25mb profile in a few days, as long as the error count is low. See http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,1904.msg31527.html#msg31527

If you could manage a BT speedtest it would helpful to see the current IP Profile.

QuoteRate:    1152 kbs    288 kbs
Something not quite right there, why is the upstream only 288? , should be 448 even on ADSL1.
That looks like a fixed rate 1Mb connection to me...

Jup

Thanks for the quick replies guys,

Here is the speed test result..

Download speedachieved during the test was - 649 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 400-1000 Kbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 750 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 13.36:20.94:65.7 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.

Can i get off the fixed rate if the line is indeed fixed?

Rik

Probably profile, Jup, since your speed increase is not huge. Can you manage a BT speed test.

Hi Rik,

Is the speed test I posted 1 post up the test you need to see? I did the test from here http://speedtester.bt.com/

Sorry, came in on the previous page and was preoccupied.

Your profile should rise to 1M, but it looks to me like you've been put on a fixed rate 1M service, not Max.

Can i get that changed or should i just wait a few days and see what happens?

Hehe sorry Rik, take your time mate :thumb:

Rik

OK, you've been remodulated to ADSL Max, but then capped at 1M in order to stabilise your line. Give it a week and see if things remain stable. If they do, call support and they'll lift the cap and see if you can retain stability.

Ah ok, I'll keep an eye on things over the next week. Thanks again for the help guys :)

Is this normal as it seems to be going the wrong way, max rate down was 1500 all last night:(

Looks like its been moved from a fixed 1Mb to a normal ADSL1 connection since the upstream's now back at 448.
The target noise margin has gone up though, which would tend to indicate a 'banded profile'. Only problem is I didn't think they were used on ADSL1 and also there isn't a profile with a maximum synch of 768k, very odd...

Jup

Cheers for the quick reply MisterW,

I'll keep watching it today and see what it does.

Seems my profile is getting lower than ever :( Take it my best course of action is to sit tight for a few more days?

Rik

Yes, be patient and resist the temptation to reboot the router.

Rik

Have a word with support, see if they can reset the target noise margin for you.

Hi Rik,

I called support and they reset the target noise margin for me no problem. I'll post back once I start seeing some changes. Thanks again for the help, much appreciated :)

Cheers

Rik

NP. Good luck with the change. Did they tell you when (if) you need to reboot the router?

Hi Rik,

No they never mentioned rebooting the router, just said that i'd see some change in about 4 hours. Should I reboot do you think?
