Reports here today show that Supanet have gone into receivership and the administrators have been called in. Supanet's forum on AG was updated about 10:50am today with a linky...since then it's been notably quiet, a few questions and comments but bizzarrely nobody shouting about it !

Supanet's customer portal is still up and they are still marketing their BB offering's so one assumes they administrators will be trying to keep all the ball's in the air and hand off the customer base to some other lucky telco.

I don't want to be a doom-crier but I can't help feeling that this is the thin end of the wedge...we could be in for a painful old summer as more and more of these guys see their margins squeezed and end up going to the wall...fingers crossed I'm wrong ?!

I'm afraid I kind of agree with you Scott,

We'll probably only be left with a half dozen major suppliers who can handle the financial vagaries.

Mind you, supanet were closely linked with Time and Tiny so it should probably come as no surprise that things would go bad when their major referrer's go bust.

The front page on AG doesn't carry encouraging news about EvolutionDSL either.

Yet another unlimited ISP bites the dust... I suspect AOL will probably pick up a lot of the high users. If AOL ever decide they don't want to support anybody downloading the net every night and introduce caps, THAT'S when it will really get entertaining!  :D

That's so true Bill...BT's shares will plummet when it happens...their Retail bandwidth revenue streams from AOL will drop like a stone ?!?

Actually, from some points of view, they're (currently) quite a good choice. No limits, shaping or throttling, monthly contract (provided you supply your own hardware) and not expensive.

On the downside, of course, there's no MaxDSL, offshore customer support, no tech supp if you don't use the kit they prefer and the stigma of the name. But a lot of people don't care about that...

I'd echo what Bill says too...they've clawed themselves back from the pits (lets face it the only route they had left was up ???) however the AG forum on them can be a lively and entertaining little nest of vipers !

[update] just had a random skim in AG - AOL and no surprise...what's the No. 1 gripe ? ADSL Max. No 2 seems to be sh#t customer service from offshored tele-tech drones.[/update]

Looks like I got out of Supanet just in time. I'm not surprised that they're failing- they were trying to move all their unlimited customers on to capped packages while I was with them (along with a new 12 month contract) and really bad customer support (it's Windows!).

I just hope they don't all move here :)

As for AOL: though I've only used them for dialup (I needed a backup with Supanet, surprise surprise) I never had a problem with them- even thier technical support was better than Supanet's :P
IDNet Customer (ex-partner's name): 6th January 2006 - 23rd March 2007
