deleted files

is there a way to recover accidentally  deleted files or files that have been moved and dont show on a search in Vista.My son just asked as he seems to have lost a load of music files but hasnt deleted them,was just un zipping to a folder and it seemed to just disappear.

Very strange, I'm assuming you've checked recycle bin?

yeah not in there
  he was un zipping then moving the files to another already made folder but they didnt show up in new folder

Unzip them again.

If you know the name of one of the missing files, search for that - they have no doubt unzipped into the wrong place.

Recuva is an excellent free recovery tool.

If recuva fails. There is also TestDisk. http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk But it's run from command prompt. Don't change the wrong settings, as it has some that delete things too.

Thanks for the help and tips every one.we managed to get them back with a prog called Pandora Recovery.seems quite good.

still dont know how they got deleted first may be something in the zip software

I've often found it's simple mistakes/automatic changes by programs. Such as, you Zip the folder (as replace and zip) then decide to use Winrar instead. So you delete the Zipped folder. Only to realise afterwards it WAS the original. 
On the bright side, you did not delete and entire HDD while looking for the backup button...

It's amazing how fast things run when you don't want them to run at all. Yelling "Stop, stop!" never works well for me.

Well, it's how it is made. One box pops up and says "delete?". You MEAN to click no, but they are so close together.
Then it's 1 file to remove a boot sector, millions of files to restore said drive.
