Hi,
I'm getting intermittent problems with receiving e mails. I spoke to support who said we need the details from the rejection message.
One didn't turn up a week ago resulting in my purchasing account being put on stop. I can't ask the woman in accounts for the rejection message as she won't have a clue.
I sent an abrupt message to a supplier asking why he'd not got in touch only for him to send me a copy of the one he had sent saying he was getting mail box errors from my provider.
This guy is a very busy one man band so I can't get error messages from him either really.
This has happened on previous occasions too, but is very intermittent. I've probably lost 6 messages over a period of 3 months, but they're the important ones not the junk! I have no problems with the idnetfreemail address though  ???
Anyone had similar  :dunno:  I'm not going to get anywhere with this via support as I can't provide the info they're asking for  :(
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Rik

I've never knowingly lost a message, Gavin. Have you checked the spam folders via webmail?

Hi,
There's a thought Rik. I've checked that now and there's no trace of the missing messages.
I'm guessing from the fact one person (Nick) has said the message would not send that it wouldn't get to webmail the same as it didn't get to me?
Do the mail servers not log any errors?
I've just received this from Nick:
Your message to <*******@idnet.com> was automatically rejected:
Quota exceeded (mailbox for user is full)

Cheers,
Gavin :)

Rik

That looks like he's exceeding his storage capacity on his incoming server. Is it an IDNet address you're sending to?

Alternatively, Gavin, your mail box could be full - do you use POP3 or IMAP?

Hi Rik,
I use POP. There's 563 item in the webmail inbox. This apparently is the problem, having spoke to support. I never go in there though
Is there a way to disable it?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Rik

The webmail inbox just reflects your POP3 mailbox. It sounds like your mail client is not removing mail from the server when it collects them.

Hi,
Looks like some house keeping is in order then.
Good job he sent me that message or I'd have never know what was going wrong  ::)
I like a nice easy fix  ;D
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Except for spam... that can build up and needs clearing out now and again.

I'd second this. Unless you want secondary backup by keeping them on the webserver in case you delete them off your PC. This way you can keep as many emails on your pc as you want, and not have to worry too much.. (It might crash after 75 billion or so emails ;) )

It's a good reason for turning spam filtering off, imo. Little escapes IDNet's traps.

Hi,
I think the reason the deleting is turned off is so that I can receive the emails on my phone as well as at home for when I work away in my no broadband caravan
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Rik

Set up your mail client to delete, Gavin, but your phone client to not delete or to use IMAP.

Can you not use IMAP on the phone?

Thank you Bill. I don't have to ask Ray for the plain english version now.  (And that's coming from someone who reads wiki a lot.)

I find Wiki is very good if you know what something does, and want to find out how... and even then, the amount of prior knowledge it assumes can be intimidating!

Hi,
Thanks guys :)
I've only every used POP I had no idea about IMAP. MY phone supports it so all's well.
The beginners version was the best for me. Now I know what and how, the Wiki might make more sense to me :)
Cheers,
Gavin :)
