Redeeming DLC codes on Xbox Live with a Silver subscription

Alan Wake came with a DLC code for the first add on which was free but as I'm not sure whether my connection is up to a standard that would work well online yet I just want to connect it and download the DLC without having to purchase a Giold sub, anyone know whether you can do this?

You should be able to do that Mitch.

Obviously you can't play online without a Gold subscription but you should be fine downloading the DLC for Alan Wake.
