Anyone own one or tried one? If so, how do you find it compared to a conventional book? My thoughts are turning to what Sue should buy me for Christmas.

My cousin has had Wifi version since September, she is as yet, unable to download any books, Amazon's 'experts' can't get it to work either.

Great. :( Has she got anything on it - does she find it easy to read compared to a book.

From the hour or so I spent on the phone with their helpdesk, it is very clear and easy to read from. Books can be downloaded to the PC/Mac then uploaded to the Kindle via USB. I think hers is the exception, as other people at work that have them, haven't reported any problems.

I've had the wifi only one for a few months now. Before this I had the Sony prs 600 and the Kindle is many times better than that. It has a better /clearer display and is much easier to manage books with. Although I have not needed customer service from Amazon , it is clear from the forums that if anything goes wrong they will replace the device quickly.

You can change the font size easily. Being longsighted this is great for me. I personally would not want to read many " dead tree books" now!

Thanks, Mike.  :thumb: I had the Sony unit and found it too low in contrast to read from for any length of time.

I've thought about getting one as well but I wanted to see one first to determine how good the contrast really is.

I think if you travel a lot it's a great idea, otherwise use a book.

I tried one, but the screen got messy with me licking my finger to turn the page.  ;D

That's about my position, Zap, you can't go and look at one unless you know someone who has one.

JohnLewis had them on display in the Cheadle branch.

Yes, I wasn't sure if there was a JL in the MK shopping centre. Its a while since I've been there. :)

Rik

Quite a big one, MW. :) There's not much we don't have here these days, except Harrods. ;D

If it means leaving the house to go shopping, that in itself is no small achievement. She that must be obeyed nearly fell off her chair when I agreed to it ;D
