Invalid IP address error :(

Hi guys, Im new to IDnet, only been on for 2 days. Home max 8Mb, Static IP address.

I just updated the MSN Messanger from v.7 to 7.5 and cannot connect anymore. I permitted it in ZOne alarm, but it still wouldnt connect.

When running the MSN Messanger troubleshooter, I get the error :

"YOUR MACHINE APPEARS TO HAVE AN INVALID IP ADDRESS"

Looking at my IP address, I can see that subnet mask is 255.255.255.255 which may be causing the problem. Does anyone know how to get around this? Or should I contact the CS?

Also I notice that I cannot access my work exchange server for webmail. Its a secure site, I get to login pop up window, but then it wont display the next page, so I wonder is problem is related to the above one. Oh dear, I betta check if I can access my bank site!

First thing is a little diagnosis...open a cmd prompt and type:

ipconfig

then hit enter you shold get something like this:

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter PCI Ethernet:

        Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :
        IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.169
        Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
        Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

your Subnet mask will be the 255.255.255.255 one...lets see what your IP address is being assigned to.

Oh God I am so embarrassed now! 

I restarted the computer and now MSN Messenger is working absolutely fine! I am so sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    I wish they'd tell you to restart at the end of the installation innit! But since they didn't I didn't.....

So sorry guys

As for the work Webmail, that's now working as well, so I can't do anything but send a big fat massive humongous APOLOGY
