Quick Time has mysteriously appeared in my system tray. I don't want it and I know that it is difficult to get rid of, as it doesn't appear in the list of programs in Add or Remove Programs. Does anyone know how to find/uninstall it? Reistry Repair also doesn't detect it , as far as I can tell. My laptop is quite slow and easily gets bogged down with too many applications.
As you can tell, I need answers to suit a non-techy person! ::)

Have you actually looked on the add/remove programs list? Quicktime shows up fine for me there on my machine.

I'm assuming you don't use iTunes? If you do, then you need to have quicktime installed for it to work properly.

Same here, Lance. It shows in Add/Remove and there should also be a Quicktime icon in Control Panel for the settings.

It is possible to stop it loading into the system tray, if that's the issue. Advanced tab, uncheck Install in system tray (or words to that effect).

I don't use iTunes, but possibly the daughter has installed it. It isn't in the Add/Remove programs list. I can locate the folder in the C Drive, but I thought that just deleting these is not enough. Maybe I will just put up with it in which case I prefer it in the sysem tray for ease of stopping it running automatically.

If you are desperate to get rid of it, you could try downloading and installing a new version. Hopefully this will give the remove program entry in the add/remove programs list.

Or you could manually uninstall if you don't mind hacking the registry (or you could use something like CCleaner to do it for you). I was just checking my installation, looking for an uninstaller but there isn't one, and Lance beat me to suggesting a new install, then uninstall. :)

Thank you all. I will consider the options you've suggested.
