im looking to go fibre which is avilable where i am

but i am concerned about using bt

what are peoples views?

i was wanting info on the traffic shapping policy.

so for eg im within the cap per month.

if i download a torrent distro say once during a week that was say 2gig and i did it at peak time say 7 pm would that traffic be shaped/managed down? im guessing it would.

how does bt policy gaming?

i understand that idnet amoung some other isps dont have any shaping even if they are using bt wholesale product.

idnet peak time usage seems abit ridiculous 9am to midnight and the peak time caps dont seem too good, but no shaping is applied.

zen seem a bit better as there is no peaktime just a cap

It's difficult to advise you. BT are reputed to shape, but we can't say for sure. IDNet do not, but if the hours don't suit you, then Zen would seem to be your logical choice.

maybe

you/or anyone else dont happen to know if its no shaping untill u download a certain amount?

so if i did one 2gig file then id be ok? but if u were a 'heavy' user, so for eg after u downloaded a certain amount they shape u?

or if the shapeing is on by default at peak times?

pctech

Can definitely vouch for Zen not shaping.

One thing you can do with Zen which you can't with IDNet yet but is buy additional bandwidth (that is the aamount you download) which is banked and rolls over month to month until used up.

I can't say with any certainty, not being a BT customer. I have heard they shape by traffic type, not by volume. Some ISPs do it differently, and segregate heavy users onto a separate feed so they don't impact on other customers.

yeah thats what i thought from ready there policy

basically whatever package u are on at peak times certain traffic is shaped/managed wether or not u download a lot, which makes downloading a torrent at peak time.

eg gaming patch whatever, thinking ill get it real quick and it will be nice and fast, reduntant. it wont be. unless u use work arounds.

also was told  by BT when i asked about there unlimited service. The person said it is actually  limited to 300gb lmao ok i know thats alot, which i will not get near at all, but still made me laugh, so i responded has the definition in the dictionary of unlimited changed? hehe

so have to make mind up tom on how much i can afford to what ill get and whats imp to me.

It was redefined in the telecomms industry, primarily by the ASA, who accepted unlimited meant limited but looks better as a headline. :sigh:
