Can the resident IDNet FTTC customers please run a BT speedtest and post the results (Screenshot would be ideal)

I just want to check something I've noticed during my travels today.

Mine attached. Haven't done one for a while. I note that the speed is continuing to drop from the halcyon days when it first started at 35Mb!!

My speed's dropped drastically today,  everybody and their mothers must be on line today,  shopping probably.   ;D
Brian

Take care of all your memories. For you cannot relive them.

pctech

I know that a lot of the shops have started online sales today.

Its quite depressing that the consumer society doesn't stop for at least one day.

That said my youngest has been hammering LuckyVoice Karaoke today ;-)

So it's not all been shopping - and the network has been performing a treat!

Roll on his bedtime so I can get "Livin' on a Prayer" in place of bloomin Lady Gaga!

Merry Christmas!

Like browsing through treacle tonight  >:(
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Anton

Actually, after reaching my endurance limit for Christmas TV, I decided to browse a little and by chance ended up on the BT support forums.

42, yes 42, Pages of angst that I think put matters into perspective!

I can't begin to imagine how I'd be feeling right now if I had moved to Infinity when I signed up for VDSL.

Who is in their right mind would use BT as their ISP.

He will of course get priority service from a named individual no doubt.

Wasn't there uproar when he moved into a village that didn't have ADSL but BT spent thousands on Broadband Enabling Technology (BET) to install it for him exclusively.

And I bet the Chief Exec of British Gas has no problem getting someone out when his heating breaks down.

BT Speedtester doesn't really work for me lately, seems like an on/off situation.

Rik

I think the BT speedtester is at the bottom of a long list of priorities. Last time I tried, it gave me my profile the stuck. However, because it had got that far, it decided it was a successful test. :sigh:

Hope they fix it and do something about the speed it operates at although as its having to look up using a database of x million lines I doubt it's going to be a quick process.

Rik

Why they can't detect the line information from their radius servers puzzles me, Mitch.

I doubt very much that the testing server can 'see' the BRAS and Radius servers as it would be a tempting target for hackers.

It probably queries a server which contains a copy of the database.

Rik

Albeit a crotchety server and a knackered database. ;D

Yep its probably running on a Pentium Pro.

Rik

I was thinking more a 486, Mitch.

486 is a bit generous Rik? Probably a generation older and a 386.

They don't market CPUs they way they used to which is a shame as Intel produced some cracking ads IMO.

With or without the 287?

I cut my design teeth on the 8080 and 8086 ...

With. :)

To be totally correct they were the 80286 and 80287

And what about the 80186 and 80187

Never used in PCs as far as I can remember.

Rik

I certainly never saw one. I knew they existed, but where was never answered.

Some of the systems we designed them into are still in service and the 80186 went out of production only recently. The 187 was, I believe, an 8087 with some minor modifications to get 80186 compatibility and never available on the wider market
