Morning All  :)

Came back from a few days at relatives for Xmas to no internet connection.

Anyone having the same problem in the Basingstoke / North Hants area?

I have connected via my mobile dongle but whereas I could get email yesterday evening, today I can't send anything with the message 'could not log on to the SMTP server '?

Anyone else experiencing similar?

No problems here, Rufus. Nothing is showing on the network status page either. Was your router left on while you were away? If so, unplug it for 30 minutes then try again. If you still have no connection, email or ring IDNet and someone will get back to you.

I take it you are set up to use the authenticated SMTP server, otherwise you would get that error from a dongle. However, that would only affect sending, not receipt of mail.

Hi Rik,

Many thanks for that. I did unplug the router three times last night - for 30 seconds, 1 hour and overnight but no change.

I tried to phone the IDnet support this morning and got a recorded message that they are closed until Tuesday 4th Jan. They gave a facility to leave a message with BT but I've been down that route before and didn't bother!

When you navigate to your router interface what stats are showing? Do you have synch with the exchange?

Not sure if I have a similar problem though DSL light is always green, but the "internet" light keeps going red on my netgear router, internet has gone off a few times so far today.

WOW - I really must complain here more often  ;D

Internet and all connections have suddenly returned!

I suspect there was a problem with the line locally - a BT Openreach van was 'loitering' earlier!

What area are you from? If you have synch but dsl is down it will be a local event or BT failure somewhere.

My sisters connection has gone completely unstable again. Well the connection seems okayish, just when the phone rings the connection drops! Plus the line has IMMENSE amounts of noise. I really think there is something wrong with the local exchange for him (sisters other half), or the line outside their house as there is literally nothing wrong within the house itself. Everything is new and tested, and tested with my router too, and their router works here, etc.

I think they're about to phone idnet support actually. I doubt BT will do anything though. Gits.

I'm not that far from you and haven't noticed anything.  Checking the router logs doesn't show anything either, so I'm guessing it may be a local problem.
