The world is Orange...or just slightly more beige ?

Following the hoohah with Orange entering the global comms market I was wondering....do any of you out there really know...no...I mean really know how much your phone, freeview or cable, broadband and mobile costs per month ?

How would you go about working out whether the all-encompassing  Orange/Wanadoo comms offerings actually makes financial sense ? Oh sure...I know how much my mobile costs this month, my last quarters phone bill etc and BB to IDNet...but what about over the space of a year...who amongst us has paperwork and bills that far back, or the time and anal-retention (!) to tot it all up and work out the costs difference ?

I'm deeply suspicious about these all-encompassing solutions for the digital age for a few reasons.

  • Not much more than a decade ago people were saying the same thing about satellite...where are we now ? One encumbent provider = monopoly.
  • All your eggs in one basket - sure they might be big so you're confident they won't vanish...what happens if they are sh#t ? How much hassle is it to extricate yourself from your contract ?
  • When all's said and done...do these "cover everything" deals really save you cash or are they just a land-grab of the available digital userbase...get you tied in and let apathy and inertia do the rest ?

Well to me...they would save me a bit of cash...roughly £130 a year......but... and its a big but, do I want to be tied down to them for an 18month contract.......one simple answer...NO
As for satellite......full package is over £42 a month... over £500 a year...and for what ...repeats on 90% of the channels...."wishes I was boss of Sky"   ;)
I cannot see these "all in one packages" taking over...the British public are not that stupid.. :o

Well for a £10 that might be something worth considering but like you say the downside is being tied to an 18 month contract...not a chance ! We binned Sky in our house a few months back and got their version of freeview through the dish (Gov't forced them to provide a freeview alternative !) and I'm happy to say we've never watched so little telly...get more done on the house, garden and time for ourselves ! I tell you TV = digital crack !

Have you seen "Turn back your Body Clock", "Honey, we're killing the kids" or "Bride and Grooming" ?  I'll bet they are inundated - just like CW were.

Eh nope......dont watch much telly......like some  ;) :D

We have the "middle" package off sky.....just enough channels to keep er'in'doors happy, no films and no sport channels, not worth the extra outlay.

Well if the British public are that stupid.....good luck to them on trying to escape from it a few months down the line...  ;)

Eerrrmmmmm...fair point ! Having said that, in my defence it was a quiet night on the couch with the missus and her turn to hog the remote.  ;D
