Does anyone know anything about the 2701HGV-C apart from it being a router only - it does not have a modem front end, just a WAN port.

Software version - does it resemble any of the v5 or v6 2700s?
I'm desperately trying to figure out why kamikaze pilots wore helmets.

I believe BT are supplying them on Business FTTC installs. Like you say its a router only , no modem. My guess is that it runs the same firmware that the normal 2700HGV runs. That firmware will cope with most options I think , it seems to check for lots of hardware options when its boots up.

Apparently it's got both DSL and WAN ports according to a recent post on the PlusNet community forums. http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,101459.0.html
QuoteIf you scroll down to the picture of the back panel for the 2701HGV-C http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com/108.htm you will see a DSL and WAN ports so it both a router and ADSL Router. Same as the latest BT .Homehub

A little late - I have had one installed for 11 months!    And yes it does have a DSL port.

Better late than never :)
There wasn't any pictures on the tripod site last year and the HGV-C doesn't exist on the 2wire/pace site. Knowing it was being supplied by BT for Businesss FTTC customers I'm afraid I took you at your word when you said it was a router only with just a WAN port.
BTW Does the firmware have options for both WAN and DSL ports or are they supplied with different f/w depending on intended use ?

My initial question came about because no one knew !   And the information from BT sales was - "it needs a modem" and was initially FTTC only with ADSL customers still receiving the 2700.

The firmware is identical - release and build numbers for complete firmware and modules is identical.     It seems to auto configure on first install.

I'm not quite sure what you mean there.
I noticed that in the pic on tripod, the WAN port is covered. Are you saying that these are sent out by BT, preconfigured to use EITHER the WAN or the DSL port and it set itself up on first powerup ?
Is it then possible using the web configuration to change to using the other port ? OR is it now fixed?

It is covered, I believe, to stop a user inadvertently plugging a PC or other device into that port when it is running a DSL modem.

Recently I have been working with BT on a problem and have had around 8 2701s.    I powered one up, with no line or WAN input and ten connected it to my PC.   The parameters were those used for ADSL (in General) - on home/xslt?PAGE=C_1_1 the VPI/VCI were set and other values there already with MTU at 1500.   As I plugged in the WAN connection from the modem,  the settings on that page changed removing VPI/VCI and setting MTU to 1492.

It is quite feasible to take this unit and connect it to an ADSL line and the settings will revert automatically and I don't believe it is necessary to change the values using the web interface.

Sounds too clever by half.
