Hi

Sorry if this isnt quite on topic.

Should a new house build install an NTE5 box as the first box, and can I insist that they fit one?
I think it used to be a BT requirement to comply with their connection.

The standard is now to fit an EXTERNAL NTE.  You (the customer) then wires to that the same as an internal NTE.  The advantage is that BT can test the connection without entering the premises which means people do not need to take a day off work.

Very interesting, thanks for the document.

This may explain a few things with a friends issues where there broadband was working and now only seems to work if they remove there microfilter (however this gives them some echo problems on voice).

Does the External NTE include microfilter technology already?

Not that I've seen.

It's just basically a grey plastic case with a "plug" inside it which eliminates the internal wiring for test purposes.

No,  but the best way is to get a after market NTE 5 and remove the ring capacitor and OOS resistor,  add a flitered faceplete and you can run everything from there
