Yes, this is typical of me that I need advice at a weekend when phone support isn't available....  :(

For various reasons, including the fact I'm running out of bandwidth allowance, I'm planning on upgrading my broadband package. If I do it online today, will the increased allowance take effect immediately?

If I upgrade online today and it's not actually upgraded until Monday or later, and if I go over the pre-upgrade allowance tomorrow, will I still be charged the £1 per Gb?

Not sure, but I'd say probably, yes.  Rik will clarify.

If you upgrade before the month ends you should be fine, basically they'll refund you the amount you paid for this month and charge you the new upgraded amount.

Rik

I've never had an instance where someone has upgraded after going over their allowance, Sean, so I can't give you a definitive answer. The normal practice has been that the new allowance is applied immediately, but no extra charge is made until the end of the month.

I'd suggest you drop support an email, you might get a definitive answer or the upgrade.

My point would be, whatever happens it is not a massive problem?? ::)

Sean

Surely, if you can curtail your download/s until Monday the problem will be solved. If you can't then you will just be charged simply at the going rate that you are aware of at this time and you are not going to be charged the earth unless of course you download hundreds of Gb's?

Whether your usage can or can't be included in your current  plan your cost will be minimal until it is resolved satisfactorily after the weekend? ;)

Quick update...
I've now upgraded.
(Thanks to Simon at Customer Services for the prompt & efficient service!)

Apparently by upgrading before 1st of the new month I won't be charged for any excess on my old package.
