LLU versus BTW

My typical speed under BTw. Do you think LLU would make much difference to this?

Given that attenuation you'd expect about 3-4mbps.

Obviously there's other advantages LLU offers over BTW apart from speed too.

TBH given the SNR I'd be surprised if he got much above 2.5mbps even with LLU. Only way to find out is to try it, although TT is (I think) an 18 month contract.

Other things being equal, an LLU connection will almost always beat a BTw one... but with TalkTalk, other things aren't equal!

Sky LLU has a fairly good reputation.

I personally wouldn't recommend Sky after having a bad experience trying to move to them from Xilo/Opal LLU. They managed to get the voice side of things done on time but the broadband was never activated and was down for weeks with no sign of it being resolved.

Luckily as the transfer to their LLU network had not completed I called IDNet on Thursday and James had me online yesterday with a fast track installation. I am planning on also moving line rental/WLR to IDNet again as soon as possible.

If you are in a TalkTalk area then I can highly recommend Xilo with their Opal LLU products. The only issue with the service at this time is they take over the voice and broadband side of things and don't offer any call plans. I have talked to Matt since leaving them and apparently they are going to start offering partial Opal LLU so you can keep your voice and line rental with a BT based supplier and take their LLU for broadband only.

TBH I think iDNet would do well to look at offering something like that. Being totally reliant on BT is not a good idea, particularly given the fiascos last year. Not only that but OpenReach seem to be reducing the amount an ISP can check the line in an effort to determine a fault.
