He may be in the same position as me Rik, I do not have a master socket like the one in the photo.  I have an old BT socket which is unaccessable other than unscrewing the whole thing and then you can see the wires in the connectors at the  back.  I suspect there are many sockets of the older type in existance and, as I say, he may have one of them.

Entirely possible, Alf, so I posted the photo to try and help identify it if he does have an NTE5. If not, we're back to just unplugging everything.
