Not that they want people to upgrade their phones at all.

the 3G is getting old, and phones get left behind, some Android handsets are being left behind on updates and they are not that old either, its called capitalism Simon.
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

I thought it was called materialism. ;)
Thats why the west is such a great place to live and also why we are all so happy, tbh there may be reasons it cannot be patched, Applke do provide less fragmentation than some smartphone makers, Android fragmentation with updates seems a nightmare with HTC having to wait with sense UI or whatever its called, or Samsung each having their own flavour of the OS, you can pretty much guarantee you will get a good few years of updates with an iPhone. Having now played with Android for a while, and the latest Symbian phones I know which I prefer, and knowing that I will get updates on release keeps me happy  :)
