BT Charge for migrating from LLU?

One of the posters on the Tiscali forums (I'm still with Tiscali and considering migrating to IDNet) has spotted the following on the ADSL24 website - relating to migrating users currently on LLU.

"This means your current ISP have you on their own equipment at your exchange and not BT's. BT will charge a £45+vat migration charge if you wish to migrate away from an LLU provider. The charge will appear on your first bill with us."

This is news to me. Does IDNet pass on this charge? I've not spotted it on any other ISP's website, but it may well be hidden in the small print, for obvious reasons.

I honestly don't know, is the short answer, Ian. Best to give IDNet a call on Monday if no-one else can tell you.

Meanwhile, any readers just migrated here from LLU, who can say whether or not they paid a charge?

From the IDNet website it reads:

**New activations take 5 working days. Migrations are free & take 3 working days with no downtime (LLU migrations take 6 working days and may have up to 4 hours downtime). There are no cancellation fees for migrations away. Upgrades are free of charge, downgrades are charged at £15 (inc VAT). Upgrades/Downgrades usually take 24 hrs but please allow up to 5 working days.

Thanks Gilba, I did see that info. As a Tiscali user I'm always cautious!

The ADSL24 home broadband front page says:
"If you do already have broadband, you can transfer (migrate) to us for free with no downtime."

However, on the Check Availability page you find the message I describe in my previous post regarding payment of £45+vat if you migrate away from an LLU provider.

It may well be that this does not apply with IDNet. I'll try to find out more on Monday.

ADSL24 is an Entanet reseller and Entanet charge a fee for LLU migrations. I'm not 100% sure if it is a BT charge simply passed down or if it is a charge made by Entanet. I've noticed on ADSL24's website that they refer to BT in a lot of areas perhaps trying to hide their reseller status; it's worth double checking anything on their website.

Good news. Just got confirmation from Simon at IDNet:

"We do not currently charge for Migrations."
