Zip progs

I use a zip program called IZArc.I have just checked for updates and got a new version but when I went to install NOD is flagging a warning from something called Opencandy.

does any one use IZArc too and do you know any thing about this Opencandy

My favourite compression program is 7Zip. It is free and has a small footprint. It has a nice tidy GUI and integrates with the Windows shell fine.

It supports just about every compression method that you can think of. (Zip, RAR, LZH, etc etc...) See attached jpg.

It's one of the first things I install on a new computer. I never bother with Winzip and WinRAR any more.

Me too. For years I stuck with WinZip, because Nico Mak was very fair to his customers, all upgrades were free after purchasing a licence. Once Corel got its claws into the program, though, it began to bloat and has become expensive.

I've used winrar for years now, and never had any problems with it. 7-zip did briefly have issues unpacking things zipped with win zip a few years ago, but I've never used that since, so I don't know. Winrar, apart from a blip around the same time, has always worked fine for me.

Same here. I just wanted to see what 7-Zip was like, so I downloaded it but forgot to install it, and have closed down now.

Another vote for 7-Zip. Used it for quite a while now and no problems at all. Never found anything I couldn't open with it.

Not quite sure why anyone would buy a zip program seeing as Windows has had it built in since XP?

Usenet has billions of RAR files and just about every useful zip proggy supports the protocol.

I guess it's mainly down to the interface. I wasn't too keen on the way XP presented the unzip option.

The thing I really like about using the 7-Zip compression method is there is an option to encrypt the file names in your archive which is very useful to me for financial information and password files. It means that anyone looking at your 7z file can't even see the file name contents until after they have entered the correct password. Other programs may do this as well but I have got used to the interface now.

7-Zip and Truecrypt (both free) are my chosen methods of data protection now.
