Updated and all seems fine  :thumb:

Lance

I expect the ipad 3g connectivity issue is the main driver behind this release.

zappaDPJ - I always have to click the 'check for update' button in iTunes, even if I know for sure there's an update, then it will pick up any new software.
Steve

Lance

Indeed. I think iTunes shows the next date it will check for updates but you can click the button to override it.

Ah thanks for that, I'm still an iPhone noob but learning everyday. I'm now using it as an alarm clock :D

Not a good idea based on previous news Zap.

You just need to remember to reset it when the clocks change from BST to GMT.

I know my daughter was incredulous that technology could fail and make her an hour late for college or go in without any make up on. Probably the most difficult decision she's had to make in 16 years  ::) ;D

Supposedly that's been cured in 4.3.2 now  ::). iOS 5 is the next hurdle, with rumours that no new iPhone will appear till Autumn, or even early 2012 which I cant see myself.

I may have gone over to the darkside with Android and Samsung Galaxy S 2 with a dual core 1.2Ghz processor with 1Gb of Ram and a  4.3" WVGA screen by then. (bet the battery life will be awful though)

What worries me is future forecasts are saying that Android will be the dominant platform with over half the smartphone market, that makes me think google can do without profiling me via my handset no matter how powerful, they get enough from the web as it is ;)

It's getting frustrating now, that every time I see what looks like a decent phone, it's powered by bloody Android.  I think the next phone I get might be the BlackBerry Touch (Storm 3), unless I just keep the iPhone.

I never thought I'd say this about a phone but am becoming very addicted to the Blackberry even though I managed to crash the predictive text process the other day and it had to restart.

Simon

What's the reboot time like Mitch?  On the old Storm (OS5.0), it took a good three minutes to reboot, which mine did once or twice durung calls, when it lost the phone signal.

does take about three minutes if it has to reboot but only time its had to do that is when it wanted to install an App World and BBM update.

Wen the Suretype service crashed it just came up the prediction software has experienced an error and is being restarted which happened in a matter of seconds, it didn't trigger an OS reboot nor lose the message,

pctech

Hoping OS 6 is signed off by O2 and RIM soon so that I can get it installed as it is available for the Pearl just not the O2 branded version yet.

Will be interesting to see how you get on with the Storm 3 as I think its going to be based on the realtime OS QNX which is supposed to be very quick.

Tried out BlackBerry Messenger this afternoon with a colleague, could be very useful.

Simon

Never used it, as I didn't know anyone else with a BlackBerry!

Loads of iPhones but only me and this one colleague have a Blackberry in the office.

They are becoming more popular though apparently and I can see why.

Niall

Since this update I've noticed that some apps crash to desktop (if that's what it's called on a phone!). I was looking at Facebook on it the other day and it just vanished. It's done it with 3 other apps too, but at the time I didn't pay attention to which ones as I thought I'd used my giant thumbs to turn it off :D Facebook has crashed 3 or 4 times though, and I know I didn't do anything. This happened about 3 updates ago too. I suppose an update of the app itself will solve it, as there will probably be some form of memory conflict, or something as it was made to support older OS for the phone.

Maybe ;D

I think its probably called a home or idle screen Niall but not being an Apple aficionado I don't know for sure but I would agree that if the OS has been upgraded but the apps haven't and have become unstable then it is advisable to check for updates to the apps as chances are they have now been tweaked to work with the new kernel.

I'd have thought though that the OS would have done that itself when it booted for the first time after the upgrade, bit like firefox does with your plugins when you upgrade it.

Steve

Looking on the iTunes App store the latest Facebook App is not working well in a few of the reviews.

Correct, the latest facebook app update sucks.

Forget about using it on a 3G connection as 8 times out of 10 it will just tell you that you don't have an internet connection & then crash.

No issues with it at all here, its odd how it hits some users and not others, mine works fine over v2G 3G and wifi, still has bugs like taking you to the wrong photo comment etc but its done that on all versions I have used.
