QuoteMillions of gamers are unable to play online as the Playstation Network continues to suffer a major outage.

In a blog post, makers Sony thanked users for their patience but warned the downtime - which has so far lasted more than 20 hours - could continue for "a day or two".

Seems there may have been an intrusion in the network, bit worrying. Anonymous say it was not them.

They probably would say that wouldn't they? It's better for them to claim they don't do things, and continue to do them.

My mate has been moaning about this since it started but he has an xbox 360 too so told him to stop moaning and play that.

They like to be known to be proactive, I think if it was them they would be legion and gloat about it as one, but many.... ::)

That's the thing though. In this case they've attacked someone that actually has the money and muscle to do something about them. It'd make more sense for them to say nothing. A couple of days ago, it was being claimed that it was them, and now apparently it's not them

They are a pain Niall, tbh all I want to do is shoot my friends online in COD Black ops tonight and I cant   >:(

They've been pretty vocal against Sony, many of the reasons quite valid, but a group composed of anonymous members isn't going to have any official hierarchy or control. I believe it amply highlights how many people are quite content to have all their entertainment content tied to one remote server and what then happens when it goes down, particularly for games that are single player that you still can't play offline.
CompuServe 28.8k/33.6k 1994-1998, BT 56k 1998-2001, NTL Cable 512k 2001-2004, 2x F2S 1M 2004-2008, IDNet 8M 2008 - LLU 11M 2011

It is flawed. You'd think they'd at least have a system so playing online is always possible, only syncing with a server to update stats and general updates, etc. As it is, when one thing goes down, the lot does.

I wonder if the earthquake in Japan effected their communications with Servers worldwide leaving this problem waiting to happen?

I remember reading that a couple of fibre optic cables were severed but we repaired pretty quickly.

Quite the opposite it seems. They like the attention. Could even claim claims where there is not claims to be claimed.

Sony are not sure if peoples credit card details have been compromised now  :sigh: Looks like Im heading to the garden to get away from all this as soon as the sun come s round which is about the time it takes to drink a cup of tea.  ;D

Well Sony are saying that 77 milliuon peoples info was stolen including the following:

    Name
Address (city, state/province, zip or postal code)
    Country
    E-mail address
    Date of birth
    PlayStation Network/Qriocity passwords and login
    Handle/PSN online ID

Th long credit card number may have also been taken along with the expiry date but not the security code :shake: This is not good for Sony and proves how fragile these systems are. Users should beware email scams etc Personally I just cancelled the card I use for safety, also when its back up change your passwords as soon as possible, not quite sure when that will be though...

Does make you wonder how much thought Sony put into the security measures when setting this up doesn't it?

It was designed by the marketing men, Mitch. ;)
