There's a way round that, Niall.  If you open a new FF window, and type about:config in the address bar, when you hit Enter, you should see a long page of configuration options.  Go to the bottom and look for:

ui.key.chromeAccess
ui.key.contentAccess

Right click each one, select Modify and swap the integers round, so chromeAccess becomes 5 and contentAccess becomes 4.  Close the window, and Alt+S should then work to send messages on forums.  :)

Yay! Ta for that. That's been irritating me for ages. The last time I looked into it, there wasn't a work around.

I use firefox, but I think my observation skills are lacking.  I never noticed the shortcut message.

I hope I am not missing any other tricks out there ::)

Sebby

It's not something that's explicitly mentioned, Bob. Alt+S is just a shortcut to submit a form, but you need to adjust the settings to do so in Firefox. :)

You won't see the message if you use the QR box, Bob, but on a normal reply, it's shown just above the buttons, see below.

It does still work with the QR box though.  :)

A massive bump, but a worthwhile one I feel given the number of users who might have swapped from IE to firefox in recent years.

I've just used this again on FireFox 4 on my work laptop as it was annoying me not being able to use the shortcut! Firefox hadn't previously been installed on the machine.
