hi rik
i am a newbie and am having trouble with the installation of my netgear dg834gv3.
i read your very easy to understand instal process and followed this to the letter.
i can log on to netgear and all websites no problem but i cannot receive any emails.
previously i used a speedtouch 330 and emails came through the setup in outlook express.
when i try to open outlook express when online with netgear it requires me to try to connect with speedtouch.
what have i done wrong.
marvellous forum only noticed this because i was having trouble hope you all can help.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Check your network setup in OE. I'd take a bet it's set to dial a connection. Check Tools > Options >Connection. Set it to share the same settings as IE. In there, make sure you are set to never dial a connection. That should stop OE going to the modem.

Hi Mal (sorry, brain dead this morning, thought I was replying to another message  :-[)

I don't actually use OE, so I'm not sure how it is set to use the IE settings, at a guess, it's probably asked by a wizard when you first run it.

However, if you go to Tools > Options, and click on the connection tab, you should see something like the first screen shot below, click on Change, and you should get the second dialogue shown below. All bets are off if you're using Vista though. :)

hi rik,
thanks for all the help and the info re: emails on idnet.com.
i messed about with tools and options etc. and finally realised that i had to show netgear as a connection in OE. what an idiot i am.
well as soon as i did that and made the properties similar to speedtouch, it was immediately effective.
i really appreciate how this forum can help anyone and i shall be continuing to watch for all the tips.
thanks again
