On phone, so spellings on thin ice.
Seem to be connected to the exchange. But no ip dns or internet. Was fine. No warnings just red light in internet marker on router. dsl light green and steady.
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

.Griff.

There's a problem in the Milton Keynes area but I've no idea where you are Ben.

Steve

We're used to phone spelling  The Idnet status is showing problems with Manchester node 4.

Though you may want to try re-booting the router while the phone is ringing. :)

pctech

There was WBMC work last night in London which affected MK.

Wasn't using the connection at the time but noticed the uptime had gone back to 10 hours and logs showed LCP initialisation and authentication so assume it must have lost PPP.

Maybe they forgot to press save. ;D

Rik

BT don't have a save button, just a delete one. :)

Back now. No idea what it was. Seemed to have sync, but no target margin etc to see on router stats
There is an estate going up, but I would have thought they would not unplug the whole place, to get the new cables in.

So stale session maybe? It just died, half way through browsing.

[edit]
Went down around 17:30. Logs show back up at 19:39.  :o
Was down for 2 hours!?

Could be a case of "JCB, meet buried cable"?

Wouldn't be the first time, and a couple of hours sounds a possible repair time.

Update:
Going though town today, I noticed 2 BT openreach vans, and a big hole or two in the pavement. So, I guess they started work around 5:30 yesterday?  :slap:
Strange that they had adverts for fibre optic internet on the building they were fitting the connections too. Does this mean that the office is getting fibre or that they just advertise it, even when they are installing ASDL. ;)

Rik

It's a bit like a Sky van, Ben. ;)

pctech

Id do wish they would stop marketing it as Fibre optic broadband along with Virgin for that matter.

As far as I understand it the core links of BTs network have been fibre for a while.

When they are installing FTTP then they can call it fibre optic broadband.

Technical Ben

It's hyperbole creep. You do know they got legal right to call unlimited plans, with limits, "unlimited" in Australia?
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

pctech

Technicallly there can never be an unlimited plan, as no matter what the bearer technology is, DSL, Copper Ethernet, Fibre or Radio there is always a limit and that's the first thing they teach on a networking course, that use has to be managed.

Technical Ben

I think the emphasis is that they put an artificial limit on an "unlimited" plan. Why not call it a "20GB plan" if it's capped to 20GB?  :dunno:
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

pctech

I'd agree with you Ben but the marketing wonks would argue that for most it is unlimited but they may only do the odd bit of browsing.
