HELP WITH MOZILLA THUNDERBIRD. VISTA

PLS PLS HELP!!!!!

I recently got a new pc with vista, and already spent numerous hours attempting to create my email account,

,,,,,,,,,(as i have now realised that you cannot use outlook express) the one on the idnet site (thunderbird mozilla) is completely different set up as to the example on the idnet set files in the help section..

CAN ANYBODY HELP PLS ......Now Tearing my hair out.

Sorry Cleopatra I'm a Mac user but as long as you've got the basic setup information to hand it should be straight forward.

You need your email address, your password for that account, the POP /IMAP server incoming mail address and the smtp server outgoing mail address . These can be found under IDNet account> email settings.

yeah tried all of that and still no connection, states that the password is incorrect (even though it's the correct one )

i think the one on the idnetters or the link you have given, is for xp and not vista..........

is sooooo frustrating.

any other ideas???

Why not? I've just setup my Idnet email account with Outlook Express and it took about a minute.

yes i can....... but i wanted to import all my data from outlook express on my old pc using xp onto my new pc running vista...

is this possible??

Sorry I meant Outlook not Outlook Express.

You could always try Windows Live Mail which is really easy to use - http://explore.live.com/windows-live-mail?os=other

(Windows Live Mail is essentially the replacement for Outlook Express)

that then means Microsoft have hold on you (like big brother and all that)....

yes i do have outlook.....but would have preferred outlook express......like an old old friend...it's what you get use to i suppose.

If you're using Thunderbird, surely that's the same whether it XP or Vista? It should be straightforward to set up, providing you're using the correct details.

i have never used this programme before, as i stated in my previous .......i was using xp with outlook express.

just wanted some advise.

If you have Vista you should have WINDOWS MAIL which is easy enough to set up, other than that you can download Windows Live Mail which is the later replacement.

Check your settings. You need to set up POP and SMTP separately. POP settings you have probably already done, but also double check the settings for outgoing server (found at the bottom of the "Account settings" windows in Thunderbird.

There is a plugin/procedure that should enable you to import archived emails. Once you get TBird working we can work on that.

There used to be a bug with Thunderbird where it automatically tried to set up an email account if it was connected to the net, problem was it defaulted to an imap account and it never worked properly.

The workaround was to disconnect from the internet, delete all accounts (if any), and then set up a new account. With no connection it would give you the option to create an account, pop or imap and use the correct details. Once that's done just reconnect to the net and test.

This may not be the issue, but worth a mention.
